Aether is a journal. What you log, rate and write in it is yours, and nobody else can see it.

The short version

• Your Scoops, Ratings, notes, Tags, photos and Sources are private to your account. The database enforces that, not just the app.
• No ads, no analytics, no tracking, no data sales. The app has no third-party analytics or crash-reporting tools in it.
• Lab results you confirm go into a shared pool with nothing that links them to you. See "The shared lab pool" below.
• We never store your location.
• Deleting your account deletes your data for real.

Your account

You sign in with a one-time code sent to your email, with Apple, or with Google. We store the email address on your account. If you use Apple's "Hide My Email", we only ever see the relay address. If you sign in with Google, Google may also pass along your name and a link to your profile picture, and those are kept with your sign-in record.

Aether is for adults 21 and over. Before you sign in, the app asks you to confirm that, and we record when you did. We don't ask for or store your date of birth.

During setup you pick a display name (it doesn't have to be your real name), an optional profile picture (re-encoded on your phone like Scoop photos, so it carries no location or device details), and the smells and downsides you care about.

What you log

Stored on our servers, readable only by you:

• Scoops: the strain name you entered, the product type, terpene values and any lab results you scanned or typed, the Source if you added one, and when you logged it.
• Ratings: your score, notes, Tags and check-ins.
• Private Sources you add, like a caregiver. We keep the name you give them and their state, never an address.
• Photos of your Scoops. Your phone re-encodes them before upload, which strips location and device details. They sit in private storage and are shown to you through links that expire after an hour.
• Milestones you've earned, jars you've saved with Counter Compass, and the daily counts behind the free usage limits.

Some things never leave your phone: your reminders (the phone schedules them, we don't send them), the exports you make, and the image and PDF versions of your Star Chart Brief.

Location

Aether asks for your location only when you tap "Near me" to find a shop. It takes one reading, rounds it to about a kilometer, uses it for that search and throws it away. We keep no location history. The shop list comes from OpenStreetMap and is loaded ahead of time, so your searches never go to OpenStreetMap.

The shared lab pool

When you confirm a lab result (a COA) on a Scoop, Aether adds a copy of the lab numbers to a shared pool. Over time that makes everyone's strain estimates better. Values you type in by hand aren't added.

A pool entry holds the terpene and cannabinoid numbers, the product type, the state, the lab's name, the month it was tested and, if you picked one, the public shop it came from. It never holds your account, your name, your notes, your Ratings, your photos, the strain name you typed, a private Source or exact dates. Nothing on your account points back to it.

Sharing is on by default. To stop it, go to About and turn off Share my lab results. That stops future sharing. Numbers already shared stay in the pool, including after you delete your account, because nothing in it can be traced back to you.

Who else handles your data

A few services run Aether for us. None of them gets your data to sell or advertise with.

• Supabase hosts the database, sign-in, photo storage and server functions, in the United States. Like any host, it keeps standard request logs, including IP addresses, for a limited time.
• Anthropic (the Claude API) does two jobs. When you scan a COA or a label, the image or the lab's PDF goes to it so it can read the numbers. When you ask Flora to explain a suggestion, it gets a short summary: terpene percentages, counts, strain names and standard Tag labels. It never gets your account, notes, Sources, your own Tags or your location, and we keep nothing from it except a daily usage count.
• Resend sends the sign-in code email, so it receives your email address and the code.
• Apple and Google handle sign-in when you choose them.
• Netlify hosts loveaether.com and keeps standard request logs.

When you scan a COA's QR code, our server fetches the lab's page, so the lab sees our server, not your phone.

Star Chart Brief links

If you make a Star Chart Brief link, anyone with it can open a read-only card for 48 hours. The card shows only what you chose to put on it, and never your name, photos or account. The address is random and can't be guessed, search engines are told not to index it, and you can take it down early. Once a link expires or you take it down, it's deleted.

Deleting your data

In the app, go to About, tap Delete account, then Delete everything. That removes your account and every Scoop, Rating, note, Tag, Source, photo, milestone and Brief link right away. It can't be undone. The only thing left is the anonymous lab pool, which has nothing linking it to you.

If you can't get into the app, email us from the address on your account and we'll delete it for you.

Age

Aether is only for adults 21 and over. If we learn an account belongs to someone younger, we delete it.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version goes up here with a new date. If a change affects what we collect or who we share it with, we'll tell you in the app first.
